A teenager managed to pull her entire thumbnail off after getting acrylic nails and trying to open a bin.

Becka Chisnall, 18, lost the nail on her left thumb just 24 hours after her most recent set of fake tips were applied.

Despite her own nails stinging and appearing bruised, she ignored the warning signs that something was wrong.

Becka, from St Helens, Merseyside, said: ‘When I was getting my nails done, they started to burn but I didn’t expect the pain would lead to this.

‘After I had the set done, I felt blood pumping and my fingers were stinging.

‘To look at the nail, it seem already bruised underneath too, which I thought was strange.

‘The next day, I lifted the kitchen bin lid up but the movement took my nail off too.

‘The fake tip and my real nail too. I’ve been left with no thumbnail.

‘It started bleeding and there was blood everywhere, I can’t do anything, Ican’t even do the dishes.

‘I’m really worried about whether my nail will even grow back, I do not want to walk around all my life without a nail.’

But she shouldn’t be too worried as fingernails will grow back after six months.

Becka is now hoping what happened to her can stand as a warning for others, especially in Liverpool where the trend is so popular.

She has since shared a Facebook post detailing her ordeal, which she says has been met with a huge response from others who have experienced a similar situation.

Becka added: ‘Everyone has been inboxing me on Facebook – some have even been offering advice about what I should do next.

‘Some people have offered to redo the set for me – but there is no now real nail to put the acrylics on.

‘I just wanted to warn people because I do not want people going through the same thing that I went through.’
