Video from inside the Thai cave has emerged, revealing the perilous passageways the rescue workers had to traverse to free the 12 trapped boys and their football coach.

The footage, which was posted on the Thai Navy SEAL Facebook page and captioned "the operation the world never forgets", appears to show the workers carrying the boys on stretchers.

At one stage, they can be seen crouching as they slide a stretcher through a narrow opening and over rapid flowing floodwaters by torchlight.

At another, they watch on as a stretcher hangs from a rope on a pulley system above their heads.

The stairs inside the cave also looked particularly tricky to navigate.

Before the mission got underway on Sunday, rescue workers warned it would be a delicate operation.

It was understood the soccer team would have to wade and dive through floodwaters before climbing and walking to the cave entrance.

But the 2-kilometre land journey to freedom would be dangerous as the boys, who were weakened and malnourished, would have to climb over slippery rocks.

And Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha confirmed the boys were also given anti-anxiety medication prior to the mission.
