Man arrested after Everton fan holding baby was filmed trying to fight
A man was questioned by police after an Everton fan appeared to take a swing at a Lyon goalkeeper while clutching his child.
Merseyside Police today said a 30-year-old man is under investigation on suspicion of assault and affray following the incident at Goodison Park on Thursday.
The on-pitch brawl saw Toffee fans clash with the french team during the second half of the Europa League tie.
One fan, who was holding a baby during the incident, was filmed lunging at Lyon’s players from the stands.
Everton captain Ashley Williams inexcusably started the melee by charging into Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.
Everton fans then joined in catching the Lyon players by complete surprise.
In a statement on Friday, Everton FC said they have identified the fan and taken actions against him.
They said: ‘We have identified one individual whom action will now be taken against. This will include a ban from attending future Everton fixtures & club registering a complaint with Merseyside Police.’
Police are still investigating the incident and are calling for anyone with information to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4065 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
