If you have been seeing these pesky little timers on your Snapchat app then, I’m sorry to tell you, but you have probably been burning some bridges with your friends.

The timers that randomly appear beside a Snapcaht friend’s name are warning you to send a snap to your friend quick or you will lose your streak?

‘What is a streak?‘ You may ask, well I have the answer.

A Snapchat streak is what happens when you have sent a snap to your friend on Snapchat and they have replied once a day for a series of days.

All that happens is you and your friend get a new emoji beside your names, by default, this is a fire emoji and the app will count how many days in a row you have sent snaps to each other.

The Snapchat streak needs to be serviced every 24 hours because you have to send them a snap and get one back at least once a day, so if you leave it for longer than 24 hours your Snapchat streak will be lost and so will the day counter and the emoji.

A timer emoji pops up and begins to move and shake beside your friend’s name when your streak is about to expire, i.e. it has nearly been 24 hours since you have sent a snap to them.

It’s not all up to you, however, your friend crucially needs to see the timer symbol know the urgency and what is at stake and Snapchat back as soon as they can.

A ‘Snapstreak’ will appear beside a friend’s name when you have sent them a snap three days in a row and they have replied every day.

After three days a fire emoji will pop up to show that you guys are ‘streaking’ along with the number 3.

Snapchat streaks are a big deal to a lot of people, some people have Snapchat streaks of over 900 days.

That is nearly two-and-a-half years of constant Snapchatting, currently, the world’s longest Snapchat streak is held by Mia S from Oslo, Norway with a 901-day Snapchat Streak. She posted that she had broken the previous record of 900 days, on October 20, 2017 when she has a Snapchat streak with her friend ‘Shaestn’ for 901 days, which is almost two and a half years.
