Boris Johnson drinks fruit juice from Fukushima
Boris Johnson drank a can of peach juice from Fukushima, which was devastated by nuclear disaster seven years ago.
The British foreign secretary was given the can of juice by his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono when the two met in London this week, and Kono recorded Johnson drinking it on his phone, the Guardian reported Friday. The intention was to prove that food and drink from the region are safe.
“Yum!” Johnson said. “Very good … Mmm.”
In March 2011, an earthquake and tsunami caused a triple meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, causing one of the biggest nuclear disasters in history. More than 50 countries and regions then imposed import bans on Japanese products, and about half of them, including China and the United States, still have them in place, the Guardian said.
