Snapchat’s parent company ‘laying off 10% of engineering team’
The company which owns Snapchat is laying off nearly 10% of its engineering team, or about 100 people, it has been reported.
Snap Inc has not confirmed the decision but it is expected to be announced internally within a week.
The layoffs would be Snap’s largest yet and the first to affect its engineers, CNBC said.
Business news website Cheddar, which earlier reported the layoffs on Wednesday, said the cuts would be announced internally within a week.
This would be the fourth round of layoffs in a year, although the first focusing on the engineering section.
The company went public last March, but has had to deal with Facebook and Instagram copying Snapchat’s ‘Story’ feature, as well as criticism of the app’s redesign.
Snap declined to comment.
