Dad chased down thief and killed him after he stole his car with kids inside
A father chased down a thief who stole a car with his children inside then beat the man to death, police say.
The three children, aged five, one, and seven-months, had been in their mothers car when she parked outside a pizza shop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Thursday to visit her boyfriend. He is the father to two of the children.
As she was in the shop, a 54-year-old man went inside her unlocked car and drove off with the children still inside.
Her boyfriend ran after the thief, who drove about a half a block before he got stuck at a nearby intersection.
He pulled the thief out of the car, but he assaulted the father and ran off – although he was soon met by a large crowd of bystanders who beat the thief up.
The unnamed 54-year-old carjacker was left unconscious with injuries to the face and head. He was taken to Temple University Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Both the mother and father were taken into custody by authorities for questioning. They are continuing to cooperate with investigators, and it is unclear whether they will face charges, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC.
